VA BIRDers,
The Fort Belvoir CBC will take place Sunday, Dec 31, 2006. The count circle
covers the usual 170 plus square miles which includes a significant number
of public properties for which access is obtained, e.g., Ft Hunt, Mt Vernon
Plantation, GW Parkway Potomac Park, Huntley Meadows, Ft Belvoir Accotink
Wildlife Refuge, Jackson Abbott Wildlife Refuge, Pohick Park, Gunston Hall,
Mason Neck SP, Mason Neck NWR, Meadowood BLM track, Lorton prison site,
Lorton landfill, Burke Lake, Sandy Run, Fountain Run Park, Lake Accotink,
Occoquan NWR, Julie Metz Mitigation area, Leeslyvania SP plus the Potomac
River off all these parks, plus many riparian parks along the Accotink and
Pohick Creeks in Fairfax County, and many fine areas in Maryland which
include key locations along the Potomac River. I am not sure, but these
locations likely total 50 or more square miles. This means we need many
birders to effectively cover all of these key locations. All are welcome -
beginner, intermediate and expert. There are so many habitat types that we
can often match you to the type you prefer. This count is sponsored by One
