VA Birders,
We held the NVBC Bird Walk at Fort C.F. Smith Park, Arlington, this
morning, Fri., Dec. 16, as a rain date from yesterday. Jane Grawe and I were
the
only 2 people who came, but we had a very pleasant walk, with 26 species of
birds seen. Highlights were both BLACK & TURKEY VULTURES, 2 RED-TAILED HAWKS (
1
adult and 1 immature), 1 BROWN CREEPER (in trees near feeders behind the
Hendry house), 1 WINTER WREN (in woods near top of hill on right of path behind
parking lot), and 1 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER. Later, about 2:00 pm, when I went
back to fill the suet feeder, I saw a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, which came to the
seed feeder 2 or 3 times.
Good birding,
Val Kitchens
