Howdy all,
It was a nice morning at the banding station at First Landing State Park
today. Lots of new birds have moved into the area. It was the most birds(at
least
migrants) we have seen this season. The best birds of the day were a lone
GREEN HERON, a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, a male RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, at
least
6 PRAIRIE WARBLERS, many BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS,
NORTHERN PARULAS, 30+ YELLOW PALM WARBLERS, a SNOWY EGRET, 5+ COMMON
YELLOWTHROATS, and lots of SWAMP SPARROWS. We heard another WHIP-POOR-WILL as
we walk
into the station early this morning. We also POSSIBLE heard a BLACK-THROATED
BLUE
WARBLER, but it was not confirmed.
We ended up banding a total of 34 birds, which is not that bad of a number,
but of course, I would have liked to have banded a few more.
We saw our first ROUGH GREEN SNAKE of the season and two more BLACK RACERS.
Totals for 4/10:
Prairie Warbler 2
Yellow Palm Warbler 13
Pine Warbler 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 4
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2
Eastern Phoebe 1
Hermit Thrush 2
Swamp Sparrow 9
TOTAL ------------------------ 34
Now this is more like it!
Cheers,
