Hello all,
We had a very productive time during our participation in the Fairfax Audubon
Society's just completed Birdathon. Even though we went out a week later than
we had originally intended, we found 84 species during a 24 hour period of
time. The Birdathon had some entertaining moments as well (see Rich Rieger's
post about the swallow practicing landings in midair along Cockpit Road). The
same area included a good view of a WILD TURKEY flying from one area of brush
to another.
After all that time in the field, and realizing warbler migration is nearly
over, we were pleasantly surprised to find a BLACKPOLL Warbler in our backyard
this afternoon.
For those of you close enough, the YELLOW-crowned NIGHT HERON is on its nest at
Runnymede Park. The park is in Herndon and Sugarland Run goes through the park.
Good birding to all,
Jay and Carol Hadlock
