The nominate form of Eurasian Teal (Anas crecca crecca) was described by
Linnaeus in Europe in 1758. The new world form, A. c. carolinensis (a.k.a.
'Green-winged Teal'), was first described by Gmelin 31 years after.
Not wishing to be overly pedantic but to be strictly accurate, any potential
split by the AOU will result in a new species of 'Green-winged Teal'
(presumably Anas carolinensis), leaving A. crecca as Eurasian Teal.
