Fri. 9 April 2004
Painter Creek Embayment
South Holston Lake
Washington County, VA

Three Caspian Terns,  a record early date for Southwest Virginia, were seen
just before sunset as they left for roost with several hundred gulls.

The gull flock was composed of about 100 Bonaparte's and 200 Ring-billed.

Six Eared Grebes, in nearly full breeding colors, were nearby.

A group of 34 Double-crested Cormorants arrived at sunset, flying in very
high and eventually settling on the lake.

Rack Cross,  Wallace Coffey, Tom McNeil, and son J.T.,  made the
observations the last hour before sunset.

Let's go birding....

Bristol, TN
