VA BIRDers,
After the regular Sunday morning Friends of Dyke Marsh Field Trip - which
will be lead by Larry Cartwright and starts at 0800 (but arrive earlier to
get even more migrants!) - Prof. Edd Barrows of Georgetown U will lead a bug
walk on the same paths. Here is an excerpt of his plans:
This is a reminder. We are planning to meet at DMWP for an
arthropod-adventure walk, Sunday, 21 May 2006, circa 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Information about the site: http://www.fodm.org/. ;
Parking. You may park in the large parking lot just north of the Marina
or in the Marina area.
Picnic. Bring your own lunch. For people who have time after the walk,
we can enjoy some food and arthropod yarns by the water. (We might have
to keep Deblyn out of the water in view of her fondness for aquatic
beetles.) There are picnic tables in the Marina area and in the park
adjacent ot the Marina. The Marina has a soda machine.
Bathrooms are available.
Hiking will be on paths and easy.
Catch-and-release. Melissa Kangas kindly issued me a permit for
arthropod catch and release. We are allowed to catch up to 50
arthropods, and each should not be in a vial longer than 5 minutes.
Note: We do not have a permit to collect specimens.
