Howdy all,
Today we captured and banded only the second ever Dickcissel at Kiptopeke! Not
bad considering this banding station has been here since 1963. It was a
hatching year female and wow what a good looking bird! There was a small group
of people that were fortunate enough to see this bird.  Best bird of the
season?? It's a great candidate! And for those of you that remember the
practical joke on one of the former banders (and one of the founders of the
banding station), this one was alive!
Even though the Dickcissel takes the cake for best bird of the day, the young
male Cape May Warbler we caught later in the day was a beautiful bird. We also
caught our first American Goldfinches of the season as well. So we are now
sitting at 99 species banded this season. What is going to be #100?? Stay
tuned!
Total of the birds banded today:
Yellow-rumped                 151
C. Yellowthroat                 1
Blackpoll                          1
Cape May Warbler            1

DICKCISSEL                    1              first of the season, only the
second since 1963

Geez, I wonder what tomorrow is going to bring!!?? I already wish it was
tomorrow!

Cheers,
Jethro
