I birded parts Craney Island this morning from 0820 to 1010. I saw 2
Black-necked Stilts at the west side of the north impoundment. There were a
few shorebirds here as well. I also saw a White-rumped Sandpiper on the
north side of the north impoundment (near the area where the Red-necked
Phalaropes were seen last month). A fair number of birds here too (Greater
and Lesser Yellowlegs, Semipalmated Plovers, Semipalmated Sandpipers,
Short-billed Dowitchers). The west side of the south impoundment is drying
up and only held a few Semipalmated Sandpipers, 37 Caspian Terns, and
Mallards with ducklings. I heard a Common Tern and saw Gull-billed and
Royal Terns. I wish I could have also seen the pair of Least Terns that
have been around, but I did not. There was also 1 Black-bellied Plover
along the west side beach.
