Hello all,
We had a most amazing time tonight at Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020
Gallows Road (just north of the Gallows Road/Rte 50 intersection).
We estimated there were at least 3400 Chimney Swifts that roosted in the
school's chimney. It took nearly 40 minutes for all of them to funnel down into
the chimney. (Carol almost wore out her clicker trying to get the count!)
Quite a sight. If you can make it there in the next couple of nights you'll
witness quite a show.
And, just to top off a fun day of bird watching that started this morning at
the New York Monument area of the Manassas Battlefield Park, we stopped at the
twin office buildings along Gallows Road at Tysons Corner and watched upwards
of 40 Common Nighthawks putting on their show.
