Everyone is invited to CVWO's "Autumn Celebration" where The Observatory
commemorates its 11th year during its Annual Meeting at Best Western Sunset
Beach Resort, located at the Southern Tip of the Kiptopeke Peninsula. The
Annual Meeting begins at about 11 AM and coordinator Ruth Beck (rabeck at
wm.edu or 757 221 2217) asks that attendees contact her with your names
- Lunch is provided through the nominal $10 registration fee. Please
contact her by Nov 7 - thank you!
Before the meeting begins, CVWO will hold a Rarities Round-up at the
Southern Tip. All are welcome to explore the area and find late autumn
migratory wonders. Perhaps a Cave Swallow or Western Kingbird will cross
your path! A cell phone chain will help keep everyone "in the loop". To
help you find new or unusual species, your Observatory has made arrangements
for access to a few normally closed properties. The Nature Conservancy has
kindly opened its gates to the recently acquire Bull and Dixon tracts for
this event - these areas are located just north of the Eastern Shore of
Virginia NWR and Sunset Beach, respectively. Also, we have arranged special
access to Fisherman Island. In addition, there are many other key areas
worth birding - portions of the Eastern Shore of Virginia NWR, Kiptopeke SP,
Oyster, the Oyster landfill, Magotha Rd and the GATR tract, and Eyre Hall to
name a few. Learn first hand about the conservation value of this important
bird area. Come on down, bring your friends, and/or link up with other
birders and try to find the next rare species! Everyone is welcome! Please
send me a note soon as many of the above special locations will be quickly
claimed. Oh, and for those of you "island-oriented" drop me a line and
cross your fingers!
Please note that the CVWO has arranged its meeting just after the Veteran's
Day Federal Holiday so many of you may be able to make a leisurely drive
down the day before. I hope to be on the Eastern Shore Friday so if you
wish to link up (or car pool from the No. Virginia area) then please let me
know.
