I went golfing today for the first time in many, many years (I won't tell
you my score) at Bull Run Country Club in Haymarket, which is off of rte. 15
south of Leesburg. Above the 2nd tee I was amazed to see an Eastern
Kingbird chasing a MISSISSIPPI KITE! I didn't have my binoculars with me,
but I watched them for almost a minute and the larger bird had that
distinctive shape. Also, somewhere on one of the back nine tees, a
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was perched on top of a short bush singing. Lots of
other great singing birds were there, including a Baltimore Oriole and a
couple of Scarlet Tanagers. I may become a golfer yet...
