I was pleased to see a Brown Thrasher in my postage-stamp back yard today.
It was around for over an hour in the late morning, and I enjoyed watching it
"thrashing" its bill back and forth and turning over piles of leaves as it
foraged. In my suburban location it is not a typical yard bird, so this was a
treat. And it made me feel justified in leaving some untidy fall leaves around
the back.
Also, a pair of Eastern Phoebes is building a nest above a window at Long
Branch Nature Center on the side facing the parking area. Nice to have around.
