I saw a flock of about 150 Bobolinks at 4 pm Saturday at Blandy
Experimental Farm (State Arboretum of VA) in Clarke County, VA. The birds
were in a hayfield south of the Cedar of Lebanon Alle. The field can be
accessed by walking through the open gate near the "Cedar of Alle 2.51"
mile marker and following the horse trail (getting a little overgrown)
south along the power line. In a pond to the right and downhill from the
horse trail were 2 Wood Ducks, a Blue-winged Teal, and a Green Heron.
Other birds at Blandy in the last couple of days was a flock of 5
Yellowlegs in Lake Arnold on Friday. I did not have my binoculars, but
they appeared to be Lessers. Also at Lake Arnold were good numbers of
swallows including Tree, Barn, Bank, and Purple Martins. Not too many
warblers yet, though.
