VA Birders,
Yesterday afternoon, April 18, I saw a pair of Eastern Bluebirds at Ft.
Smith Park in Arlington Co. A pair of bluebirds arrived at the park, but then
the female disappeared, and only the male was reported until I saw a pair
again yesterday. We couldn't find any bluebirds this morning (April 19), but
we're hoping they are still in the park.
The first Orchard Oriole, a beautiful adult male, also arrived on April
18. He flew into the trees above the Bird Stream to check it out, but a couple
were sunbathing right next to the water, and he soon flew off. However, this
morning, while Bill Cross, Pat Blyer, and I were watching the stream, the
oriole flew in, headed straight for the stream, and proceeded to bathe and
splash
for several minutes before flying off!
Other bathers at the Bird Stream yesterday and today include Eastern
Bluebird, Brown Thrasher, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Chipping and White-throated
Sparrows, and Am. Goldfinch.
