I stopped by Leonard's Pond in southern Rockingham County this morning around
9:00.  Species seen included six kinds of shorebirds and a very early duck:
Canada Goose 3
Blue-winged Teal 5
Northern Shoveler 1 female
Killdeer 23
Greater Yellowlegs 1
Lesser Yellowlegs 1
Spotted Sandpiper 2
Least Sandpiper 1
Perctoral Sandpiper 1
Mourning Dove 3
American Crow 2
Tree Swallow 40
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 2
Barn Swallow 3
Common Grackle 300+

Shovelers normally do not arrive here on their southbound migration until
some weeks later.
