Hello, fellow gringo birders!
Can anyone recommend good birding locales in southern Mexico, more
specifically in the states of Oaxaca, Guerrero, Michoacan, or
Jalisco? I have a copy of "Field Guide to the Birds of Mexico" (1972)
by Ernest Edwards which has thorough info on relative abundance of
species by region, but it doesn't say which national parks or nature
preserves are better than others.
I would be much obliged for any tips from those with experience.

Jim, there are two listservs that now cover Mexico.
Neobird, list owner David Sarkozi, that covers all of the Neotropics
to sign up send a message to listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx on the first line put:
subscribe neobird your name
Please do put your name on your subscription, it sure makes helping
subscription problems simplier.
The second list is a new one started by Oscar Carmona, Mexico-Birding
to subscribe send a message to Mexico-Birding-subscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Both have archived that you can search, the neobird archives are searchable
without subscribing at http://listserv.uh.edu/archives/neobird.html, I
believe the Mexico-Birding archives are only searchable if you sign up for
a free Yahoo ID first. Neither lists are what I call high traffic lists,
but Mexico-Birding has had more traffic as of late
The existance of there two lists is the primary reason that information on
Mexico is off limits for Texbirds
