[va-bird] Bath and Highland County, Rockingham Bird Club Weekend Field Tri p

12 members of the Rockingham County Bird Club spent a soggy weekend in Bath
County at Fort Lewis Lodge (FLL) along the Cowpasture River.  Thanks to John
Irvine for organizing this trip. Also thanks to John and Clair Mellinger for
assisting in locating and field identification of over 120 species.  Most of
the following were encountered at or near FLL while some were heard/seen en
route via Monterey and SR 600.  /John Spahr

Double-crested Cormorant (1 immature in reservoir along SR 600)

Common Loon (1 calling in reservoir along SR 600)

Great Crested Flycatcher
Eastern Kingbird -- 10 gregarious birds in a tight flock @ FLL, for 3
successive days, with absolutely no territorial dispute.  Clair and I
assumed these were non-breeding "floaters." I've seen large cohesive flocks
of this species in Panama during in March, but never such as association
during the breeding season in N.A.  Curious??
