I apologize for the delay in posting this. Ted and I birded in Orange =
County two weekends ago; I found this in my inbox when I returned from a =
weeklong absence. Ted's attempt to post it was unsuccessful.

Hello, birders.
I was at my brother's residence near Barboursville, Orange County, this
past Saturday-Sunday, 5-6 March 2005, and I was able to get out and
explore for a few hours on both days. I was accompanied on Saturday
morning by David Spears and was on my own otherwise. Here are some odds
and ends from my visit:
* Wood Duck. 4 flyovers on Saturday.
* Turkey & Black Vultures. *None* on Saturday, in the snow; lots on
Sunday, in the sunshine.
* Red-shouldered Hawk. Several (including 1 or 2 pairs) on both days.
* Barn Owl. 1 or 2 hunting after nightfall on Saturday.
* Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. A few.
* Eastern Phoebe. 2 on Saturday; another on Sunday.
* Winter Wren. 1 on Saturday.
* Brown Creeper. Several.
* Eastern Bluebird. Observed a pair building a nest on Sunday.
* Hermit Thrush. 3 on Saturday.
* Golden-crowned & Ruby-crowned Kinglets. Lots of Gickies; a few
Rickies.
* Brown Thrasher. 1 on Saturday.
* Yellow-rumped Warbler. 20+ during the course of the 2 days; several
were beginning to acquire breeding plumage.
* Fox Sparrow. At least 10 during the course of the 2 days; mainly birds
on passage?
* Common Grackles & Red-winged Blackbirds. Flocks flying over; migrants,
I presume?
* Purple Finch. 1 on Saturday.
Plus, all the dirt-common stuff that is nonetheless exciting to a
Coloradoan: Red-bellied Woodpecker, Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse,
Carolina Wren, Northern Cardinal, etc. And I bet even y'all in Virginia
never tire of Pileated Woodpeckers . . .
