This morning it was my distinct pleasure to have Allen Larner assist me with
the field trip to the Swoope area and the Augusta Springs Wetlands in Augusta
County. Allen ably and safely guided fourteen participants through the heavy
fog into the sun-lit fields, ponds and streams to record 58 species.
Birds of note were: Northern Harrier, Sora, N. Bobwhite, and nine species of
Sparrow.
The list follows with high counts noted beside the specie:
Pied-billed Grebe, Great Blue Heron, Turkey Vulture, Canada Goose, Wood Duck,
Mallard, Green-winged Teal.

Kinglet,Eastern Bluebird, American Robin, N. Mockingbird, E. Starling, American
Pipit, Cedar Waxwing.
Magnolia Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Palm Warbler, E.Towhee, Chipping
Sparrow,Field Sparrow, Vesper Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow 197+, Song Sparrow,
Lincoln's Sparrow 11+, Swamp Sparrow 25+, White-throated Sparrow, White-crowned
Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, N. Cardinal, Red-winged Blackbird, E.Meadowlark 75+,
Common Grackle and A. Goldfinch.
