If I never get another useful thing from a listserv, it'll be o.k., because
I got such a good tip off the Virginia Bird Listserv. Yesterday when Father
John at the Syon Abbey in Franklin County reported having an OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER, it made me wonder if that could be the strange-looking
flycatcher we had seen that morning at our house in Burnt Chimney, also in
Franklin County. When it wasn't around this morning, I figured it had
continued on its journey and I wouldn't get another chance to check it out.
But luckily the bird came back this afternoon and is here again this
evening. I got the scope on it and even got some pretty decent digital
pictures through the scope. My husband will put a couple of the best ones
on the Roanoke Valley Bird Club's web page at http://roanokebird.tripod.com
later tonight for everyone to see.
Not quite as exciting, but one of our favorite birds nonetheless--we started
hearing a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO this past Saturday.
