Rexanne Bruno and I spent the morning scouting a little in a territory
several of us will be covering this Saturday for the Peaks of Otter Big
Spring Day, sponsored jointly by the Roanoke and Lynchburg Bird Clubs since
1971.  No big highlights, but a decent number of warblers, with most time
spent and most seen on Suck Mountain between the city of Bedford and the
Blue Ridge Parkway (DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer page 43 A6).  A quick trip
did not reveal the Shrike seen this weekend and probably nesting in the
area, but we expect it is still there.  We may have seen one or more Hermit
Thrushes on the mountain, but could not get a confirmation.  We also stopped
at a couple of small lakes in the area.
