Message from the Pod People:
A response from Alex Kilgarran
Alex and the rest of the Engineers were working quickly, with
undertones of frantic to get the engines powered down, and the rest of
the systems disinfected. His mind, however, was not completely on his
work. It was rather difficult for him to focus.
His thoughts were with his daughter. Was she safe? Was she
frightened? Did she have some one to be with her? To help her? He
couldn't bear to think of his daughter alone and scared. Or worse, she
could have touched an infected console and be partially assimilated by now.
The permutations and possibilities grew and multiplied in his mind
as he worked on the frozen anti-matter injectors. Then, suddenly, his
mind cleared. He was able to focus again. His daughter was safe, and
with Sarah.
How did he know this? She had told him telepathically, from a life
pod in medical. He was able to focus again on the task at hand.
However, he had also come to a new realization. Perhaps being aboard a
starship, even as an Engineer, was not as safe as he had thought it
would be. He had only considered the repercussions of what could happen
to him. How could he have been so careless as to not consider what
might happen to Rikka out here?
He heard something behind him and turned back to the injectors. He
would have to worry about this new problem another time.
