When Joy left the Security suite, Rikka stayed with Moonshadows. She was entirely fascinated by the felinoid, and liked her very much. And she was thinking hard about how different people could be, and how people who were so different could get along with each other. Moons was amused at the brightness of such a young person, she was reminded of Too Long Tail, her younger brother who was always confounding the adults. "We all do things differently on our worlds, for instance we have to walk from one settlement to another though many perils to become adults, Rikka" she explained. "You can sense things, I cannot, I have a tail and you do not..." Rikka nodded. "My People don't do that," she said, "but we have to learn how to use our Persuasions and Designs the right way..." she trailed off at the mention of the tail. Moon noted the glace at her tail. "On my world they say I stick my tail where it does not belong," the Sivaoan's whiskers fanned forward in her smile. "Also, your parents named you Rikka... after we Walk, we choose our own names." That made Rikka laugh. "We say sticking your nose in," she informed her friend. "But tails are longer, if you have one." She frowned a little about her name. "My mommy named me," she said. "I wouldn't want to change it." "Human noses are longer too, but you cannot smell things as well as we do, we found." Rikka touched her own nose. "Erki didn't like the smell of the lizard people," she commented. Moon's tail looped into a corkscrew, her people's laughter. "They smell like a small nasty creature called Grabfoots on my world." She did not mention that the little creatures would pull down an unsuspecting person and eat them... or that Sivaoans also ate grabfoots. Humans had differeent sensibilities. "To me they smell dusty and sour," said Rikka. "I'm glad they're gone." She caught herself on her tiptoes before her feet could leave the floor, and settled back down again. "Rikka, can you fly?" The little girl bit her lower lip and nodded slowly. "It's called lifting," she said quietly. "I'm not supposed to tell..." "I will not tell your secret... except with my tail... but I bet you cannot hang by YOUR tail!" Her tail looped again. In a fit of giggles, Rikka lifted a few centimeters off the floor. "That's 'cause I don't have a tail!" she screeched with mirth. Moons twitched her tall, pointed ears around in circles. "And you have to point your head to point your ears." "My cousin Zak can wiggle his ears," Rikka said. "But not the way you do." "I think we are admirably suited to be ourselves... may I take you to dinner, or would your mother object?" "I'll ask..." said Rikka, and her eyes unfocused as she turned her thoughts inward to speak telepathically. A few moments later, she refocused. "Mom says I'm not to be a nuisance," she reported. "But I can have dinner with you since you asked me and I didn't beg." Moon watched in amazement.. truly the universe was bigger than the jungles and valleys of Sivao! "Then let us go to your favorite place and I will buy." Giggle-giggle. "There's the crew dining room, or the lounge, or we could do a holodeck program." "You lead the way, I shall follow!" She offered the tip of her tail for the child to hold on to. Rikka took hold, still laughing, and led the way.
