Lukas stood fo a long moment after the boy who called himself Rohan had
passed away. He stood at the boy's bed-side looking from him over to
the boy's brother, Ronov. These couldn't be his sons. They were
aboard Pathfinder, safe with their mother. And they
were not even yet, two years old. These boys were teenagers. And
yet... he knew in his heart they were indeed, future versions of his
boys.
Looking at the twins there was no denying their identity. Even if Dr.
Hamza had not confirmed their DNA matched that of his twins, just to
look at them, he saw his brother Noah in their young faces. He knew
that if his own mother were to see these boys, she wuld recognise them
instantly as her grandsons.
Lukas ran his fingers over Rohan's forehead, and through his hair.
What had these boys gone through? They obviously came back in time to
warn him of a danger to the Federation, to him, and from the way Rohan
had said he loved his mother, a mortal danger to April.
Lukas suddenly felt very much in danger of losing his composure. he
wanted desperately fo simply cry over the loss of his sons. But this
wasn't the place or time. he needed to go. To go see, touch and hold
his sons. To be certain they weren't dead. And not just on the
holodeck. They had to be real.
"Dr. Hamza," Lukas finally said, once again finding his voice. He was
barely holding back the grief he felt. "Do a molecular scan. Make
certain these boys are from our universe, and not a "Mirror" universe.
"Gwen," he said, still looking at the boys. "Take the Eagle directly to
Earth. Get the shuttle and...." He lowered his voice. A softer,
mournful voice. ".. the boys,..." he paused again, his hand still
touching Rohan's head. Then continued with more resolve. "... to
Starfleet Comand. Ah'm sure they wil be hahgly interested in all this.
Ah'm going to Pathfahnder."
Without waiting for either of his officers to acknowledge his orders,
he turned and departed sick bay. On the way to his quarters, he caled
flight control and had them ready the Eagle's Wing for
immediate departure. He found Malachi idoing schoolwork.
Malachi, being as perceptive as he was, could see the trouble in his
step-father's eyes. He rose to greet Lukas, who simply pulled the boy
into an embrace. After another long moment, Lukas finally was able to
say, "Pack some things. We're going to Pathfahnder."
