Duty Log
Stardate: 59117.06

I have finished investigating the "spider" incident.  Most of the spider machines were completely destroyed, along with any information that they may have had.  Because a lot of the machines were destroyed by human hand, DNA analysis was contaminated on those machines.  However, there were a few left uncontaminated, and the subsequent analysis revealed something interesting.  It appears that Ambassador Tarkan not only lead the Empress and her daughter into a trap, but he planted these spiders.  It appears that the spiders were given a time delay prior to activation.  Their only objective was a mission of seek and destroy, with the target being the Eagle's computer control room.  There, they were to destroy systems, leaving the Eagle dead in the water.  Easy prey for the Frinkta.  They didn't count on the Eagle using any auxiliary craft as the Eyes and Ears for the Eagle.  Nor did they count on the quick response from the Eagle's crew in discovering and repairing the damage.
Of course we had help from a pair of Zilots that Ensign Grat brought on board and accidentally let loose on the ship.  He should be VERY thankful that the Zilots liked eating the spiders more then it liked eating anything else on this ship.  Though, I will still have to have a talk with him about bringing animals onto the ship without authorization.
All of my findings have been sent to Starfleet Headquarters.  There was no evidence that anyone else on the Eagle was involved.
I have also had every inch of the Eagle searched for any signs of other "gift"s that might have been left behind.  All search teams came up empty and all scans were negative.

END Log
