Melody was exhausted. Both emotionally and physically. She had spent her
energy helping unload the bodies from the wrecked hull of the ship the Eagle
had encountered first. A hand full of people who had closed themselves in one
of the last intact rooms left on their broken ship hoping to conserve the last
bit if air, hoping against hope that help would arrive in time. Unfortunately
it had not. Some had died from injuries suffered but most of them had just
simply run out of breathable air. Doctor Ratchet had brought back survivors and
Melody assisted her in tending to their wounds.
Afterward, when all the people were patched up and resting comfortably she
walked back to the morgue. She didn't know who these people were, what
religion, if any, they had but she knelt down before each and in the tradition
of her people sang a song for the departed. The song, sang in soft, reverent
tones, wished for the spirits of the departed to end up in a happy place of
rest. To be reunited with the ones they loved and for thoes of higher powers to
watch over these souls untill they reached that place. She shed tears for thoes
whom she did not know, nor did she know if any one would mourn for them.
Melody's saddness premeated the room as both her voice and her mind
resounded with it. One of the nurses who had come to check on Melody burst
into tears as she entered the doorway. The nurse turned and left wipeing the
wetness from her face.
