Maybe we can do something to honor him, as an organization like Chris could
come up with a special tournament in his name or something so that future USBCA
members can know him.

We have not only lost a very good and knowledgeable chess player, but also a
long time and dedicated member of the US BCA. In corresponding a lot with Jay
over the past few years, I not only got to know him on more of a personal
level, but I also grew to have a great respect for his vast knowledge of
things. Rest in peace my friend, you will truly be missed!

Hello members and friends,
Several weeks ago, we learned that Jay Leventhal, a good friend and longtime
secretary of the USBCA, was seriously ill. Over the weekend, his obituary was
published in the New York Times, so his death ends a long battle with his
serious health problems.
I met Jay maybe 30 years ago at one of our national championship tournaments.
Soon after that, Jay became active in the organization. He made many
contributions to our organization as secretary and as the editor of our
periodical. During my time as an officer, I could always rely on Jay for level
headed and knowledgable advice. Like many of you, we have also lost a good
friend.
Give us a few days, and we will publish more information about Jay’s leadership
in the organization and some of his memorable games.
Take care.
