Sorry to hear this sad news, and condolence to USBCA for losing a dedicated member.
I have known Jay from the Cassette chess tournament he used to record to send to all USBCA members when email was not yet available.
Rest in peace Jay, you surely be missed.

Hello members and friends,
Several weeks ago, we learned that Jay Leventhal, a good friend and longtime
secretary of the USBCA, was seriously ill.  Over the weekend, his obituary
was published in the New York Times, so his death ends a long battle with
his serious health problems.
I met Jay maybe 30 years ago at one of our national championship
tournaments.  Soon after that, Jay became active in the organization.  He
made many contributions to our organization as secretary and as the editor
of our periodical.  During my time as an officer, I could always rely on Jay
for level headed and knowledgable advice.  Like many of you, we have also
lost a good friend.
Give us a few days, and we will publish more information about Jay’s
leadership in the organization and some of his memorable games.
Take care.
Al
