This past Sunday, I saw an unusual-to-me sapsucker in my neighborhood near
Roseburg’s Eastwood School. Matt helped me identify the bird as either a
RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER or a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER - a rarity in these parts,
I’m told. Matt and I have both looked since, but not seen the bird again.
If you’re interested in looking for the elusive ‘sucker, feel free to wander
the Sharon Ave/Lois Lane neighborhood (up Ramp Road beyond the turnoff to
Eastwood School) in search. Matt found a deodara cedar laden with sapsucker
holes on Sharon Avenue near the Sharon/Lois corner. This tree might be a good
place to look. Please post on UB if you happen to see the bird!
