Mary Anne,
What a wonderful assortment of birds! I wish we had Purple Martins here (old
town Oakland). Apparently there used to be, but we haven't seen any. Thanks for
sharing your bird list! Here today we have dozens of wild turkeys, a Hooded
Merganser on the pond, along with wild Mallards. Yesterday we had a GB Heron
and resident Red-shouldered Hawk.

Glad to hear they are back. The bald eagle pair appears to be thinking about
nesting on the Umpqua near Yellow Creek again, but no sign of any opsrey yet
(the osprey nested in a new tree just up the ridge from the intersection of
Tyee rd and 138 last summer). Had a Hutton's vireo "singing" two weeks ago
during a break in the rain. Didn't make it back to the Umpqua Basin this
weekend to see how spring was progressing, but winter is making a reappearance
out here on the south Fork of the Coquille.-MadroneIn Powers

All,
Yesterday I observed four Violet-green Swallows for the first time this year
circling around a pasture area off of Sawyer Creek Road (approx. 7 miles west
of Elkton). There was a break in the rain and some actual sunlight, so the
white rump patches and unique coloration of their backs could be seen clearly.
Also, Turkey Vultures have returned to our area with at least five seen last
Monday (2/26) circling overhead once again off of Sawyer Creek Road.
Cheers,JM
