HI Folks,

I'm just remembering a few things from the Paulson's Raptor Field Trip last
Saturday, January 24th, that ought to be mentioned (besides the fact that
the day was really fun, especially once we hit North Bank Rd.). Mikeal
Jones is compiling field notes for Oregon Birds journal (
http://orbirds.org/orbirds.html), so this is my way of getting this info to
him and sharing with you at the same time....

At Plat I Reservoir I could hear a TREE SWALLOW flying around. Never did
see it (it was foggy initially). They are showing up elsewhere in western
Oregon.

One LEWIS'S WOODPECKER was seen along N. Bank Rd., roughly 2.5 miles west
from the bridge over the N. Umpqua River. While these woodpeckers are
fairly regular on N. Bank Rd. most winters, they are definitely a species
of interest and concern, so I want to report them pretty much whenever I
see one in Douglas County.

At the pond on South Bank Road (out near Whistler's Bend) was a group of 16
COMMON GOLDENEYE on the far side. I don't often see that species down here
in the "valleys."

Good Birding, and Great to have you here Janice!
