It's been a very quiet winter and slow spring for me so far but things
seem to be picking up. Also, the logger cutting the 30 acres above me also
indicated to a neighbor that they may be done with the majority of the
project soon!
The first thing this morning I noticed was 6 *band-tailed pigeons* when
my dog flushed them out of a fir tree. Five stayed together close by, the
6th started singing a little distance away. These are not a normal bird for
me.
Even though Matt Hunter reported earlier in the week a *Cassin's Vireo*,
I too had one yesterday, although I needed Matt's help reminding me what I
was hearing. This morning had a great session of 5 of them with 2 males
singing and 3 more feeding together between the two males in amongst a
blooming madrone. Joining them was my first of the season *black-throated
gray warbler. *A *red-breasted nuthatch* made a quick dash into the
foray before leaving just as quickly. Seems to be the nuthatch's behavior
right now never staying longer than 1-2 minutes. (And only the 3rd time in
maybe the last 2 weeks)
Anyway, I was out for 2 hours this morning and do not have many species
to show for it but I sure enjoyed the new songs and activity!
