Hi Folks,
A couple weeks ago a half-dozen folks joined me for a limited
reservation-only discussion of how to record bird sounds with your cell
phone, edit them, and upload them to eBird. This process allows regular
people like you and me to contribute to a global database of bird sounds
that are referenced to a specific place and time, and which anyone on the
planet with internet can listen to and view as a spectrogram. But what IS a
spectrogram, and how can these be used to learn about bird songs or
identify birds that we hear?
OPEN TO ALL: On Monday evening 5:30-7:30 pm, November 14, in the conference
room at Elmer's Restaurant in Roseburg (just north of Garden Valley Blvd on
the east side of I-5), join me and others interested in this topic for an
introduction to understanding, using, and enjoying spectrograms of bird
sounds! We will learn (1) how to interpret what we see on spectrograms,
(2) how to use this knowledge to sharpen our ability to recognize bird
sounds in the field, and (3) how to utilize several online sources of
spectrograms (also called sonograms).
This is intended as an informal dinner presentation/discussion.
Registration is not required to attend, but I would appreciate a quick
email so I know about how many will be there. Let me know if you plan/hope
