Ahhh, nice Matt. I can't tell you how much better I feel that I'm not the
only one that makes wierd nonconventional descriptions of an unknown
entities!

This morning I hiked some of Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park. At the far SW
side, and W of the trail, in the woods, I heard a weird squealing hissy
whiney hissy weird sound. At first I wondered if it was some young of a
large owl, and as I looked for it, I spotted something moving along the
ground about 25 feet in front of me, moving right. It went through the
grass, then on top of a down log. It had a horizontal profile, kind of
shaped like a wine bottle moving along the ground and along the log, with
some variable mottling and striping. It moved pretty quickly and my first
thought was some weird, injured, bizarre ground squirrel with a pattern I
had never seen before, ... but then it partly flapped (e.g., a wing). Ahhh,
... RUFFED GROUSE, doing a distraction display. I think I've only
experienced that once before. Apparently I was close to its nest or young.
It moved too fast and through tall grass for photos.

Ruffled,

Matt
