Tomorrow: NKU to host 'An Afternoon with African Artists' June 26 News from NKU... For immediate release... HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University will host "An Afternoon with African Artists" on Sunday, June 26, from 1-4 p.m., in NKU's Ceramics and Sculpture Studio (Campbell Drive) on the school's Highland Heights campus. The event is free and open to the public. The afternoon's events will include exhibits and demonstrations by authentic West African artisans and the American teachers from around the U.S. who have been working with them for one week. Guests will see authentic traditional bronze casting, kente cloth weaving, glass bead making, pottery and adinkra stamping. A note to parents: there will be open fires, open kilns and molten bronze and glass. While there will be no need to get close to these fires, parents should be cautious with small children. The event may not be suitable for active toddlers. "An Afternoon with African Artists" is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, NKU and Hutchinson Community College.
