--- University Hights Neighborhood Association - NET Message ---------------

Hi all

I didn't make this month's CUF meeting due to illness. Apparently,
Councilwoman Laketa Cole was there. Julie Murray forwarded me a copy of a
subsequent email she sent to Ms. Cole. See below.

Subject: NIN meeting items from last night

Thank you for coming to hold the NIN meeting at our community council last
evening. Though I was frustrated that over one hour was used to address
one individual's personal problem, the Michelle Sanchez matter - nothing
that had anything to do with our neighborhood, I was very glad for the
opportunity to speak to you and your committee for two minutes about three
matters of great importance to our CUF neighborhood. Because it was late and
the end of the allotted time, you asked me to put these concerns in writing
to you today for you and your committee to follow up.

The first matter concerns the CUF Community Priority Project. Our request
was chosen for funding ding the 2007-2008 budget cycle and we were notified
of the grant in December, 2006. Cathy Rafales, who headed up our CPR effort
emailed Steve Schuckman and Jim Burkhardt for information on when the
implementation of the project would begin. We received a response that
indicated the funds would not be released, pending a larger project of
looking at the needs of all the parks in the city in conjunction with a
study sponsored by the Uptown Consortium. This study has not been concluded
and we are very disappointed that the $165,000. earmarked in the city budget
for the CUF CPR repairs of Belleview and Fairview Parks, both long overdue,
is being held up.
This was not CUF's understanding of how the CPR process works and we are
asking that you and your committee intervene for us on behalf of getting the
CPR funds granted by the city for this project released to us as soon as
possible, so the project can be expedited. This would be a great
contribution to our neighborhood.

The second matter I brought to your attention last evening was the matter
you personally addressed last May of the restaurants on Calhoun and McMillan
between Scioto and Clifton Avenue using the pedestrian sidewalk as their
permamnent storage of their large brown plastic trash containers 24/7,
causing the sidewalks to be obstructed, against city code. Ms. Cole, you
went into two of these restaurants, on your own initiative, to address this
matter with them when you were doing the "neighborhood walk about" at the
end of May, 2007.
Nothing has changed, despite our continued called in complaints to the city
departments, and the fact that we now have NEP in our CUF area. We ask your
help on resolving this matter.

The third matter I addressed last night was the question of the "rumor"
circulating that there is talk of considering selling Classen Park to those
who wish yet more land for commercial development in our business district,
all the while our still having the rubble of the previous declaration of
"eminent domain" (corner Calhoun and Scioto - old Primetime/MacDonald"s)
and much of the land declared "eminent domain still undevelopped. It is
totally unacceptable to us in the CUF neighborhood assoication to think that
the City ASdministration would even consider selling any of our green space
or parks for more retail development. This park is one of the gateways into
the CUF neighborhood and is highly prized by all our residents. The children
at Corryville Catholic use it as a recreation space, since they have no
other. Please assure us that you will adamantly oppose any hint of a move in
the direction of giving away one of our park spaces.

Thank you for your interest and work on behalf of this neighborhood, the one

with the highest density population in the city. I look forward to hearing

favorable from you.
