If I might add some information to Cindi's indication that the North
American `Braille Formats` standards allow either split or not split
hyphenated words across lines. (More information about `Braille Formats`
is included at the end of my message.)
During the process of earning Library of Congress certification in UEB, I
asked this same question of the individual who graded my assignments. I
was told that to a braille reader it would be preferable to have the entire
hyphenated word on the same line, if doing so does not create an unusually
large amount of blank space on the preceding line.
In effect, ease of reading is qualitatively more important than
space-saving, when considering whether to maximize use of each line or to
create a short line so that a hyphenated word can be kept on one line.
