Yes. These are used by the virtual filesystem to store file names or file 
attributes that can't be represented in the host filesystem. For example, you 
can't have a file called '.' in Unix, but you can in AmigaOS (extreme 
example). They're also used to store things like the 'Pure' attribute on 
files.
