You can download as many different virus/trojan detecting & removing products as you like - there are, as we have see, a number of them. You could run more than one at the same time but they sometimes clash with each other as the deep inspection the products need to do to can look like a virus at work to another virus checker AND it would most certainly slow your machine down. I say this because it is widely reported and I have, inadvertently, done it myself in the past. More recent editions of Windows appears to be able to warn you that you are running two (or more) security products but I may be seeing some product defence against non-Microsoft products so I may be wrong. I have relied on Microsoft Security Essentials since I downloaded it when it changed from Windows LiveOne Care and became a free product. When run it disables Windows Defender (if you have it) and takes on a complete virus/malware/intrusion detection operation getting its new-threat details 3 times a day so is usually well up to date in dealing with new threats. All virus/trojan detections software will fail sometime but I have found this to be fine for the year I've been using it. http://www.microsoft.com/security/products/mse.aspx Its not worth faffing around with AVG - try downloading Microsoft Security Essentials and ditch AVG. ANYONE ELSE have a view on this? My Windows Security Centre tells me that Firewall, Virus Protection and Automatic updates are on. Also I managed to get back my AVG Free 9.0 which is all 'on' but tells me that it is now out of date. If I am unable to install the latest version would I still beable to download the Microsoft one that you mentioned? Depending on your Operating System version you'll get a different screen but it should be obvious what protection you DO have right now. It may report of Firewall, Auto-update, Malware detection and 'others'. If the Malware (or perhaps virus) section is shown in red you are, indeed, without protection. I downloaded a copy of AVG 11 this morning and it installed OK - that was on Vista. I got that from http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.ht ml I didn't actually run it (as I'm now using Microsoft's Security Essentials - another free product) but it did not object to installation. I have seen a lot of reports of the 'logo test' failure with a lot of OK products but none for AVG. Perhaps a fresh installation would be worth a try. My AVG free edition asked me if I wanted to update to 2011 Free. I keep trying to do so but get a message saying the programme has not passed Windows Logo testing and to continue may affect the operation of Windows. I am asked to cancel. I now appear to have lost all my AVG as I have no icon and can't find it anywhere so no protection! What should I try next? Diana
