QuickTip: Using # GetPlay Instead of Play
The Play command is a simple way to “hard-wire” a specific file to play, and
looks like this:
Play /Radio Files/Station/SomeFolder/Somefile.mp3
That’s fine for most situations, but there are a couple situations where #
GetPlay will serve you better.
1. You want to adjust the volume of the audio file you’re playing back, such
as a regularly downloaded newscast that’s always a little too quiet:
# GetPlay +1 /Radio Files/Station/SomeFolder/Somefile.mp3
With System 5.2, start with an adjustment of +1, and use a larger number if
required. Often +1 is a good amount of boost.
2. You want to play the contents of a folder without knowing what’s in the
folder, and especially if you can’t be sure the folder’s contents will be be in
place at the time when you generate a program log in TuneStacker. Because our
PlayFolder requires that the contents be in the folder when the log is
generated, it won’t work right up until the last minute the way # GetPlay does.
# GetPlay /Radio Files/Station/SomeFolder/
Doing a # GetPlay and just specifying the folder will cause Command Center,
just before broadcasting the event, to go and grab ONE file from the folder and
play it. Unlike PlayFolder, # GetPlay will only play one file, but it does it
sight-unseen, so can be handy for situations where you can’t predict in advance
what the file is going to be called. Note that if there are multiple files in
the folder, Command Center will grab the one that is first, alphanumerically,
by filename.
