I'm not certain. I have been too busy to read the list of late, so I don't
know why he suggested not being online. I just figured that if there was a
particular reason, this is how you could do it. There are reasons, but
reading back, I don't see any that apply.

In Win98, go to Start, Run, and type msconfig. Click OK. Click "Selective
Startup". Remove the checkmark next to "Load Startup group items", and the
config.sys and autoexec.bat, if they are checked. Reboot.

This will disable programs that run upon startup. If the problem goes away,
then one of those programs caused the problem when it ran. If it stays, then
running those programs is not the cause of your problem, though installing
them might be if they replace or damage files you need.
