My dear friends,
I received an email right now from a young girl called 'Vandana' who says
she has got a scholarship for the Prague film school and comes from a tribal
orthodox community and is looking for help to attain funds to cover further
costs and she has only 10 days left. She just finished working with a
feminist grassroots organisation in rural Himachal Pradesh. She came across
my website and thought I could help. *

I do not personally know this girl, she came across my blog and contacted
me. If any of you feel you could help her in anyway kindly look into it.
Ofcourse since i do not know her you would have to convince yourself of her
background and project.
I am copying this mail to Vandana and thus her email id is part of this
mail.
I quote from her email sent to me:
*My name is Vandana and I am 22 years old. I just finished working with
a feminist grassroots organisation in rural Himachal Pradesh. I came
across your website and thought you could help me.
I have been accepted into Prague Film School, Czech Republic to study* *
documentary filmmaking, for the term starting in September 2011 and
finishing in May 2012.
I come from an orthodox tribal community, which is largely steeped in* *
poverty and suffers from social rigidity. Girls are rarely allowed to
finish middle school. I am the first woman from my community to go to
college, hence I believe that I am a change maker. I believe a gender
just society can be created if women get a supportive environment to
break free from the shackles that society binds them in. I don't have
the financial means to pay for my education but I do have a vision. I
want to study documentary film-making because I want to travel across
India and around the world, meet people who live on the margins and
voice their issues by making politically and socially relevant films.
Having seen so much violence in my own life and emerging against it
has inspired me
to make films which give a voice to those who suffer from violence so
that we can work towards the creation of a just and violence-free
world. If I get this opportunity to study in Prague Film School I will
inspire, encourage and motivate many women like me to dare to dream.
I have received 100% scholarship to cover my tuition fees which is 14,* *
800 euros. I require more funds to cover my airfare. computer, camera
and living expenses in Prague. I have already raised 5,000 euros.
I need to raise an additional 3,50,000 rupees. Can you help me in any
way with doing that? I just have 10 days before I leave and this is
very urgent.
I saw that you have interviewed Navroze Contractor on your website.* *
Even if you cant help, can you put me in touch with documentary
filmmakers/photographers who might be willing to help.
I hope you understand my cause and help me come closer to my dream.* *
