Michael, Thanks for the information. I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't know any of this. I'll have to try a new approach. Larry McDaniel Johnson City, TN From: mlbierly@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To: tn-moths@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [tn-moths] Re: Submit moth requests directly to Moth page at BugGuide Date: Tue, 23 Mar 2010 18:46:13 -0500 Larry and all, John Carr recently moved my ID request at BugGuide for what I thought was a Catocala, but did not say where he moved it. It still had not been identified. So I asked him. Here is what he said, "I moved the moth to "moths", which is where moths live if they don't have a more specific ID. Contributors are encouraged to submit moths directly to the moths page but we haven't gotten around to officially saying so. Draft guidelines are here: <http://bugguide.net/node/view/298899>. It's understood that an image posted to moths wants a more specific ID. If images don't get an ID after a short time in ID request we try to move them to another page. ID request used to have thousands of images and nobody paid attention to pictures after the first few pages anyway. If you are sure of your moths' genus you can move to genus page." When I looked to see where it was in Moths, it was page 28 (apparently goes in by date of original submittal, not when moved). So it is to one's advance to submit a moth image directly to moths and not to the general ID area. There should be a better chance of a moth expert seeing the image there. You all may know all about this, but the green one here did not. The link to use that goes directly to Moths is http://bugguide.net/node/view/82/bgimage. Then you can see directly under the word Moths, the link to add image as well as recent images.
