While in Lewis County on July 21, 2010, I photographed the following:

1. Dun Skipper- BAMONA for Lewis County

2. Mottled Duskywing- BAMONA for Lewis County; The habitat where this butterfly
was found was within a stream bottom surrounded by oak-hickory forest with
small barrens and glades scattered along the stream. One of the host plants
for this species, New Jersey tea is found in the area. Bart Jones pointed out
to me that it looks very much like Mary Ann Friedman's photograph on the BAMONA
site for this species. I consider it a Mottled because:

New Jersey tea is in the area

The dark, brown blotches on the fore and hind wings match the pattern seen on
photographs of mottled duskywings

It is not darker on the basal half of the forewing like Wild Indigo would be

Small size- no measurement were taken; the first thing I noticed about this
butterfly was its small size which was noticeable smaller than a Horace's
duskywing to me

According to BAMONA this is the 8th record and the first west TN record for
this species.
