At The Cove at Concord Park in west Knox County, TN this morning I found a female Blue-winged Teal. When first seen she was alone on the water in the small cove to the east of the parking lot; 17 domestic Mallards and assorted other mixed up domestic ducks were in their usual spot milling around on the bank next to the path. When I assured myself that's what she was I returned to the car for my camera. About 5 minutes later she was no longer on the water, having probably been scared off by two kayakers. I scanned the domestic ducks on the shore and found her a few feet away waddling around with the others, clearly the runt of the group. Pretty unusual behavior for a blue-winged teal I'd think. She was still there when I left. Also witnessed a prolonged dog fight across the lake between two red-shouldered hawks strafing each other.
