(tap, tap, tap) Hello? Can you hear me? (tap, tap tap)

I'm not getting anything from TN-bird, so either it's down, or my
account is messed up, or all of you are out looking at some great
bird that Ole Coot found, and I'm missing it!

Tremont, in Walker Valley
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Blount County, TN

Anyway, another sparrow flight at Tremont this week is keeping me
entertained. This is about the 4th this season. The last one was,
sadly, only around for one day. The one that showed up yesterday
brought only sparrows, unlike the others which had grosbeaks, vireos,
etc. Although we still have several PHOEBEs and at least one
western-type PALM WARBLER.

The sparrows included:

SONG
SWAMP still one of my favorite birds. Subtle beauty, after the gaudy
warblers have gone south.
CHIPPING - the majority of this group. Several dozen, with all
plumages seemingly present. Some still have full chestnut heads,
about half have some chestnut, some haven't a fleck of it. Every
time I see a full chestnut head, I get greedy and hope for Tree, but
in addition to the time of year and unlikelihood of that species in
east TN, this isn't even the right habitat. I really miss those
guys.
WHITE-THROATED still only about half a dozen
WHITE-CROWNED my first of the year. A single immature.

After a couple scouts last week, we've had a big influx of both RUBY-
and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETs.

Eastern Screech-Owls and Barred Owls continue to be heard almost
nightly by me and by other naturalists.

Good day!
Charlie
