I have had both rat snakes and blue jays take eggs one at a time.

  Chester County -

The phoebe nest just under my porch eave had three eggs in it a couple of
weeks ago - then two - then one - now none. No sign of egg shells, but
then, the flower bed below is weedy, wet, and tangled, so they may be down
  in there.

What creature would take one egg at a time? The phoebes are still hanging
around the nest - not sure if she is still laying, and still having eggs
  snatched!?
