Great morning in the backyard today (west Knox Co, 1 Oct 2010). I spent a little longer than normal birding this morning and racked up a total of 47 species in the yard... a new single-day record for total species in fall in the yard. 10 species of warblers with Blackburnian being the most common. Lots of thrushes and RB Grosbeaks taking in the Black Gum berries as well as at least 4 N Flickers and 2 YB Sapsuckers... at least until the starling horde showed up. Some highlights: Yellow-billed Cuckoo Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 3+ E Wood-Pewee, 3+ White-eyed Vireo Red-eyed Vireo Swainson's Thrush, 10-15+ plus a handful of nocturnal migrants calling when I took the dog out around 2AM Gray-cheeked Thrush, 2, nice looks Wood Thrush, 1 Tennessee Warbler, 3+ Chestnut-sided Warbler, 2 Magnolia Warbler, 3+ Cape May Warbler, 1-2 Black-throated Green Warbler, 2 Blackburnian Warbler, 5+ Black-and-white Warbler, 1 American Redstart, 1 Ovenbird, 1 Common Yellowthroat, 1, uncommon in the yard Summer Tanager Scarlet Tanager Rose-breasted Grosbeak, 4+ Indigo Bunting, 1 (had a bigger movement of these on 30 Sept) Dean Edwards Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
