Please, folks, spell out the names of birds. The four-letter banding codes are (a) ugly, (b) incomprehensible to new birders, and (c) subject to even more incomprehensible changes when the already- confusing AOU name and hyphenation changes happen. TUTI suddenly becoming ETTI is a lot more confusing that Tufted Titmouse becoming Eastern Tufted Titmouse. And was that a COBO or a CBOW or a BNOW (Common Barn-Owl or Common Barn Owl or Barn Owl?) I'd wager only a small percentage of readers here could correctly write out the current banding codes for every species on the Tennessee State List. In an era where Terrabytes of data are routinely transfered, we are decades past the day when we needed to save the miniscule server space and bandwidth used by a few more ASCII characters. Not just my opinion, I understand it is also official policy for TN- Birds.
